'BLAHBLAHRIANS' ist der rotzig-brillante Titel, unter dem das avantgardistische, französische Duo EROTIC MARKET auf seinem spektakulär-eigenwilligen Debüt mit kokettierenden, modernen Feminismus zum Angriff auf konventionserstarrte Gemüter bläst.

Ehemals in unterschiedlichen Jazz-Formationen und als N'RELAX auf gemeinsamen musikalischen Pfaden unterwegs, zelebrieren MARINE PELLEGRINI und LUCAS GARNIER seit 2012 EROTIC MARKET. Ein Duo, so herausragend wie schwer zu fassen.

Mit ihrem Debüt-Album 'BLAHBLAHRIANS' – das in Frankreich bereits letztes Jahr veröffentlicht wurde und jetzt im Vorfeld ihrer Tour auch endlich bei uns offiziell veröffentlicht wird - sprengen sie so ziemlich jede Erwartung, die man als Musikhörer haben kann. Musikalisch eröffnet sich ein kaleidoskopischer Hörgenuss: Coldwave, Electronica, R&B und Trip-Hop-Relikte, sowie feinste Avantgarde-Pop-Elemente werden zu einem kühn-genialen Sound-Mix verzahnt. Schubladen werden hier einfach mal weggesprengt. Hier ist Zuhören gefragt – und Grips obendrein. Und wer sich drauf einlässt, wird belohnt werden, denn neben kleinen Zitaten aus der Musikgeschichte, sind es vor allem die Ecken und Kanten, die sich einem entgegenstellen und durch ihren Widerstand bereichern.

Prägnant vor allem der aufmüpfige, gern gelayerte Gesang PELLEGRINIs, der durch harsche Keyboards, peitschende Drums und angriffslustige Basslines noch an Intensität gewinnt - wobei eine Assoziation mit der 'Arular'-Ära von Genreheldin M.I.A. treffend erscheint. Robustes Ego und lässige Attitüde bescheren uns Perlen wie das sofort zündende 'I Want To Be Some Booty' für das kurzerhand ein alter AALIYAH-Song umgemodelt wurde.

Textzeilen wie “Want you to love my booty, not my inner beauty” und “Why would you care about shaving?!” treffen den kokettierenden, modernen Feminismus, der das ganze Machwerk durchzieht auf den Punkt. Erotic Market rufen mit ihrem Debüt das musikalische Matriarchat aus. Im Video zu „I want to be some booty” thront Marine Pellegrini mit einer grotesken, das halbe Gesicht bedeckenden Maske im ultravioletten Licht als Herrscherin, die über Diskussionen zur Gleichberechtigung längst hinweg ist und Feminismus lebt.

01 Retro retardo:

No-one should look back on what existed before the nineties. This may sound a little assertive, but this is in connection with the fact that people are really too focussed on the past. This is certainly comforting, but looking back too much the essence of creativity ends up getting lost. And failing is at risk.

02 I want to be some booty

Fashion... Well, a specific segment of fashion: high-heel-sneakers, pockets leaking from underneath the shorts... and more generally speaking: make-up, surgery, diets. Sometimes, you just don’t want to be loved for your inner beauty. You just want to be a body and that makes you do weird things and try painful experiments. That’s certainly a back-draft of 60’s feminism.

Summer 2013, back from England. Back to writing the tracks for the album, but the bitchy muses are never here when needed.

04 Blah blah

We speak a lot, we speak too much; everyone does. We produce hot air and because of that glacier’s melt. But isn’t that just typical of manhood, to speak for nothing, just for joking. Useless, exhausting, but essential.

Around me I see people under pressure because of Love. We all know work causes stress.

But people are equally stressed and depressed because of their quest for Love, for their “Soul mate”, and all these futilities that are pressed in our brains.

If you are not in a love couple situation, you have not achieved anything in your life. For real?

06 DDDDrunk

Me drinking, in love, insulting, negotiating, turning into the mermaid’s pimp.

When you’re sick of yourself, you ain’t no use.

08 Snakes

A track about seduction, about the transformation of some people in animals when partying and about the moments these metamorphosis take place: when does one turn into prey or predator or when does one decide to be an object of desire or not. A track freely inspired by Nick Cave’s ‘’The Death of Bunny Munro’’.

09 Are U cool?

Where is your breaking point with morality? You think you are broad minded, lenient and permissive, you think you’re liberal... but there is always a time when you have to face a situation in wich you can feel you are reaching your tolerance is put to the test, and you don’t feel that cool.

A Break. A real fracture. A big error.

11 Clitacasm

A clitacasm is a cataclism located in the clitoris area. The Clitoris is an organ that is unrecognized by many, men and women, and thus isn’t always treated as it deserves

12 Societoy

Without a doubt, the most virulent lyrics. Speaking roughly about society is my personal way of sticking to myself: “carefully choose what you are and what you do, as far as possible try to chose the right surroundings or to create them yourself ”

13 Weird arabic stuff

A mixture of sounds of Brixton and London, weird synths, my lyrics and a Derek Mahon quote. I like Brixton, I like la Guillotière. I like it when it’s messy, I like it when I don’t understand a language, I like foreigners, integrated or not.

EROTIC MARKET / BIO

Erotic Market is a French duo formed in May 2012 by Marine Pellegrini and Lucas Garnier. Both musicians for more than 10 years, they perfected their skills in contemporary jazz bands and a first joint venture, N’Relax, which lasted for three years (with two studio albums and many tours )

This hard core of Pellegrini and Garnier is surrounded, both in studio and on stage, by two others skilled musicians, making for an astonishing formation with drums, bass, keys, voices and electronic manipulations. The band claim to be influenced by many musical genres, and the group’s founders have eclectic listening tastes: soul- ful hip-hop for Marine and noise rock for Lucas.

Their music swings between the groovy rhythms of black music, the raw energy of rock and saturated but uncluttered low-fi features inspired by noise music and synth pop - but it’s impossible to place them that simply in a musical genre, and they have inspired comparisons in the press with mold-breaking artists like The Knife, Erykah Badu, M.I.A and Grimes.

Grasping Erotic Market music is like that strange, penetrating dream of unknown music which is, each time, neither quite the same one nor a different one. It’s like saying again that beauty is always strange and is the magnificent essence of genuineness. It’s the odd, elusive feeling of remembe- ring those tunes without knowing them at all, recognizing the vigorous rock garage music, the bright triturations of electro, the groove of hiphop...

A magic mix free from taboos and stereotypes, where the carnal essence of a voice competes with the rough attitudes of drums and keyboards and where sweetness collides with a terrifying bass. In here, no borrowing from anything or anyone.

The great strength of Erotic Market lies with fostering a true, free, exuberant personality of its own.
